It’s wild how someone who accomplished such incredible achievements and feats was nearly lost to history. It puts it into stark contrast what is required to create lasting and meaningful change.
Most of our lodges 120 years ago were made up of the leadership class of their cities. Among those I am aware of, we have multiple streets named after brothers. We have ties to the Titanic in some very interesting ways. The local library was even named after and built by one of our own.
And those are just the men I know about through passing familiarity. There were many more, and every one of them is remarkable and worth remembering intentionally. Not for what they achieved alone, but to honor the past. And honestly, it is genuinely fascinating to me.
I would happily leave the Secretary’s desk someday and serve as our historian. Just not yet.
